While the headquarters of WBSI continue to be in La Jolla, California,
it is now not only possible but desirable to build the Institute
as a virtual organization, with staff members and constituencies
located all over the globe, collaborating by means of advanced
communication technology. WBSI can operate with a relatively small
permanent staff, aided by consultants- e.g., professors, technical
experts, public relations specialists, etc. The academic leaders
and other specialists needed for the programs are drawn from major
universities and research centers all over the world.

Richard
Farson, President, WBSI
Executive Director, International Leadership Forum
Dr. Farson is a psychologist, educator and author who directed
several organizations noted for their innovative programs in human
affairs. A co-founder of WBSI, he has served either as president
or chairman from its beginning. He was also the founding dean
of the school of environmental design at the California Institute
of the Arts, president of Esalen Institute, a faculty member of
the Saybrook Graduate School and Research Institute, and is the
immediate past president of the International Design Conference
in Aspen. A University of Chicago Ph.D. in psychology, he served
as a Ford Foundation Fellow on the Human Relations Faculty of
the Harvard Business School, and as a Research Officer in the
U.S. Navy, studying leadership, motivation, morale and training.
His books are Science and Human Affairs, The Future of the Family,
Birthrights and the critically acclaimed bestseller, Management
of the Absurd: Paradoxes in Leadership, now published in 11 languages.
His latest book, co-authored with Ralph Keyes, is Whoever Makes
the Most Mistakes Wins: The Paradox of Innovation, was recently
published by Free Press/Simon and Schuster.
Carlos
C. Campbell, Director of Development
Carlos C. Campbell, is Chairman, Geolink Advisors, LLC,
Strategic Advisory and Asset Management; Member of the Board of
Directors, Resource America, Inc., Pico Holdings, Inc., and
Laidlaw Global Corp; he is a graduate Michigan State Univ.
(B.S.); The US Naval Post Graduate School (Diploma, Engineering
Science); and Catholic University of America (MCRP). He completed
nine years of active service as Naval Aviator and Air Intelligence
Officer. He was a Senior Systems Analyst, Control Data Corp;
Special Assistant, at HUD; Deputy Assistant Administrator,
American Revolution Bicentennial Administration; and Assistant
Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development, with the U.S.
Department of Commerce and a Special Envoy for President Reagan.
He was a. Commissioner, with the Northern Virginia Regional
Planning Commission; an Adjunct Professor, Virginia Tech. a
member of the Board of Directors for the American Society of
Planning Officials; and a Fellow, Ford Foundation and National
Endowment for the Arts. He is the author of New Towns: Another Way
to Live and over 100 articles published in news papers and
professional journals.
Andrew
Feenberg, Director of ILF Program Design
Dr. Feenberg has been a professor of philosophy at San Diego State
University for 30 years, and a long time research associate at
WBSI. He was a member of the original team that designed and managed
the online School of Management and Strategic Studies, and has
become one of the critical observers of the field of online education
as it has developed. A philosopher of technology, he has written
or edited seven books on that subject, most recently Questioning
Technology, enabling him to make valuable intellectual contributions
to the content as well as the design of the International Leadership
Forum program. In addition to his contributions to the ILF, he
heads the development of the WBSI Center for Distance Education.
Thomas
Gillette, Program Director
A prominent sociologist, Dr. Gillette is Professor Emeritus and
former chairman of the department of sociology at San Diego State
University. He also was founding director of the WBSI developed
Center for the Studies of the Person. As a research associate
at WBSI he directed the evaluation of poverty programs of the
Johnson administration. A broad ranging social scientist, Dr.
Gillette has studied, written and consulted extensively with government
and the private sector on matters ranging from physician/patient
relationships to organizational and community development. His
work has always dealt with the most significant emerging social
issues, and reflected his continuing interest and hands-on involvement
in attempts to apply social science knowledge to the social problems
of other countries. In addition to his work with WBSI, he teaches
social psychology as Adjunct Professor at Point Loma Nazarene
University.
Kathleen
Greenwood, Program Director
Educated as an undergraduate at Southwest Texas State University
and National University, with graduate studies in psychology at
Pepperdine University, Ms. Greenwood has been involved in a variety
of social services ranging from mentoring adolescent girls to
advising widows on financial management to bereavement counseling
for parents whose have lost their children. Among her research
accomplishments, she has been instrumental in revising the venerable
Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, a test used to detect
psychopathology, to make it more culturally appropriate. Trained
in clinical psychology with an emphasis on family therapy, she
now also applies her understanding of family dynamics to problems
of organizational change.
Andrea
Lawrence-Stuart, Web Site Content Administrator
Ms. Lawrence-Stuart, a native of New York, worked for WBSI throughout
the 80's and has spent most of the time since working in a San
Diego law office. Recently rejoining the staff she is now responsible
for the management of its Web site content, responding to inquiries
and updating the documents.
W.
H. McGaw, Director of Communications
A long time staff member of WBSI, Mr. McGaw produced and directed
the WBSI documentary film, Journey Into Self, which won the Motion
Picture Academy Oscar for Best Feature Length Documentary. He
has also received the Peabody Award for excellence in television
production with his documentary on the troubled inter-group relations
in Northern Ireland, The Steel Shutter. His continuing interests
are in multi-media approaches to conflict resolution and community
building, and his current focus is on the ethnic tensions in Fiji.
A graduate of Rollins College, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic
Arts in London, Mr. McGaw had a successful career as a television
actor, producer and director, and as a corporate communications
specialist before coming to WBSI to manage the Institute's communications,
now chiefly on the Internet and broadcast media.
Lisa
A. Bouvier, Assistant to President
Mrs. Pasak is a native of Westport, MA and was schooled in Dallas,
TX. She assists WBSI in a wide range of responsibilities
including program development, financial management, public relations,
website and editorial projects, publicity, Internet research,
and communications with WBSI staff and program participants.
Patricia
Petterson, Program Director
Dr. Petterson is a clinical psychologist with extensive experience
supervising mental health clinics. Particularly relevant to WBSI's
project on metaprofessional development, as director of PERT Inc.
(Psychiatric Emergency Response Team) she has partnered with law
enforcement and other community agencies, mobilizing and training
these lay resources to deal with mental health crises more effectively.
Dr. Petterson received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the
California School of Professional Psychology. For WBSI, she heads
the program of metaprofessional development in the field of mental
health.
Lawrence
N. Solomon, Managing Director of ILF
Dr. Solomon, one of the first professionals chosen for the WBSI
staff, is an industrial psychologist, author, educator and consultant,
who built an international reputation as an expert in team building,
conflict resolution, and the management of change. In addition
to his long service to WBSI, where he headed several of the Institute's
most innovative research programs, he has taught industrial and
organizational psychology as a professor at the California School
of Professional Psychology. His deep understanding of leadership
and group dynamics serves him well as he coordinates both the
face-to-face and the online activities of ILF Fellows and academic
leaders.
Kip
Winsett, ILF Digest Editor
Mr. Winsett, a native of Chloride, Arizona, worked for
WBSI during the early 60's as a research assistant. The Institute
provided his first exposure to computers and programming, helping
to launch his career as a systems analyst. In that capacity, he
has designed and implemented business software for companies such
as Shell Oil, General Motors, Honolulu Federal Bank, and Mail
Boxes Etc. With the advent of the Internet, Mr. Winsett was able
to join his computer skills with his long time interest in graphic
design and art, starting his own web design company, which focuses
mainly on web sites for museums and fine art dealers. Mr. Winsett's
primary role at WBSI is that of editor of the International Leadership
Forum's e-zine, the ILF Digest.
